Cant make head or tale out of that. Shocking that google cant translate this properly.

Thinking its Japanese, i went to the Japanese forum on Ravelry and asked for help, still waiting. But shock shock its not Japanese but Chinese. Yikes!!

Here is a pictorial link for the stitch : http://kasana.at.ua/blog/zhiletik_s_kapjushonom_spicami/2013-10-09-1781

But my search continued and i came across this grr its French oh why oh why oh why does this happen to me…. We could of used this one http://www.lamarchandedelaine.fr/modeles-gratuits-/293-explication-poncho-a-capuche-bebe-en-merino-100-de-katia.html and just changed the pattern stitch Sizes are Size 3 months, 6 months, 12 months: 18 months 24 months Its double knit and uses 4 mm needles (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/blouson-bebe-sara) I then sent a msg to the designer asking if she has the pattern in English and here is her reply.
“Hello, Sorry but you will have to translate. I can not do it. Good bye.” Oi back to the drawing board we go.

Then yesterday I got some news… We have a starting template supplied graciously by one of our kpers soon to be family member. She is not too sure about some of the technology. (Patches – it worked!!!!) lets keep holding thumbs that i can now make sense of this…

“Hooded cloak with short sleeves for a little girl”

1) Needle : 5.5 cm
2) Any wool that can be used for this needle and you will need +- 600 grams
3) Its knitted as follows : back – sleeves, right front, left front and there is a hat too(ie hood)
4) it looks like to me that its knitted from the bottom of the back up and over towards the front
5) there is two sizes
5) the back – do 64 (84) rows then you make the armholes and start the pattern.
6) Cast on 68 (84 sts) for back; 41 (??) sts for front pieces and 60 (68) sts for each sleeves.

So i am going to cast on 68 sts and do 64 rows in garter stitch
here on we will have to try it…
Row 1 : K1, p2tog, p5, k4, p4, k4, p4, k4, p4, k4, p4, k4, p4, k4, p4, k4, p4, k4, p5, p2tog, k1.
Row 2 : follow above row (here it might mean knit the knits and purl the purls – will advise once there)
Row 3 : K1, p2tog, p4, k4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side – not sure of this), p4, k4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side – not sure of this) …. p4, p2tog, k1.
Row 4 : follow above row (here it might mean knit the knits and purl the purls – will advise once there)
Row 5 : K1, p2tog, p3, k4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side), p4, k4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side) ……p3, p2tog, k1.
Row 6: follow above row (here it might mean knit the knits and purl the purls – will advise once there)
Row 7 K1, p2tog, p2, k4(The middle 2 hinge to the side), p2tog, p2, k4(The middle 2 hinge to the side), p2tog, p2, k4(The middle 2 hinge to the side)……p2, p2tog, k1.
Row 8 : follow above row (here it might mean knit the knits and purl the purls – will advise once there)
Row 9 : The ninth row, every eightth row purl blind 1 off (need to clarify this)

Sleeve: Cast on 60 ( 68) stitches,
Row 1 – 6 ; purl 1, knit 1,
pattern
Row 1 : Knit 1, purl 2 together, purl 5, knit 4, purl 4, knit 4, purl 4, knit 4, purl 4, knit 4, purl 4, knit 4, purl 4, knit 4,
purl 4, knit 4, purl 5, purl 2 together, knit 1 (Note: the first and last should be knit)
Row 2: Follow the original pattern.
Row 3 : ???
Row 4: Follow the original pattern.
Row 5; ????
Row 6 : Follow the original pattern
Row 7 -10 : row don’t add or less knitting. ( Maybe it mean follow the original pattern, but I am not sure. A little confused)
Eleventh row, every flower purl blind 1 off, then keep knitting 7 to 8 row and blind 1 off. After this just knit like the back piece.

Right front piece: Cast on 68 stitches (Traditional knotted cast on)
First and second row all knit.
Third row: Knit 40, purl 8, knit 1.
Fourth row: Knit 1, knit 4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side), knit 4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side), knit 40.
Fifth row: Knit 40, purl 8, knit 1.
Sixth row: Knit 1, knit 4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side), knit 4 (The middle 2 hinge to the side), knit 40.
Seventh row: Just like third row, (I couldn’t translate the rest of it cause I haven’t done that before,
???????
Knitting sequence: Back piece → Two sleeves → Front right piece → Left front piece
Then connect back piece, sleeves, and two front pieces. How big is the hat depend on the kids head, then knit a rope and two ball. Done.

So i started out and rip rip rip rip i went

20160727_140646

Back to Ravelry i go and search.

To end our misery found this one that we could just make the sleeves shorter, add the pompoms etc have a look http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/b17-1-cable-princess or a more easier way is use this pattern but change the stitch to garter stitch and then add in the mock cables from underarm to yoke. http://freevintageknitting.com/baby-pattern/colmin728-1 For the mock cable pattern look at this pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ellarosa-cardigan and incorporate it

But thats all bottom up and i want to make it topdown.

So its decided. Make this i will. Rather going to start with the hood.. oi and i am using the easy baby cardigan from knitting pure and simple as a guide with regards to measurements and stitches.

And off i go!!

If you somehow find out how the Chinese pattern is made, plse plse let me know.

Happy Sunday!!!

  1. Diane ask the woolshops if they have a chinese client who speaks English and if they perhaps have her contact details. Maybe you will be lucky and get help from somebody here in South Africa. I wish you luck with this project!
