How to make a hexagon bag – part 1

Step 1:

First get the material that you like, then wash it in cold water and iron when dry.  This is always step 1 in all quilting projects.

Step 2:

Have old xrays on hand as you will use this for your templates.  For my bag i used the 6 inch hexagon in diameter for the inside and for the outer hexagon i used the 7 inch hexagon in diameter…  Cut out the paper hexagons and once done, paste it onto an xray.

Step 3:

INNER HEXAGONS:

  • cut out 19 material hexagons  by placing the template on the wrong side of the material , drawing the lines and then cutting it

  • 19 hexagons of batting.- place template on batting, draw the lines and cut out exactly.

  • Then apply some pritt to the back of the material hexagon and place it ontop of the batting hexagon.  Image

OUTER HEXAGON

  • place your template on the back of the material and draw your lines.  Remember when you cut it out you must add +-1 inch on all around.  Then take your inner template, place it on the material and draw your lines and you will see its the same width all around.  The reason for this is to make sure your inner hexagons are in the center.Image

STEP 4:

Once the material and the batting have been glued together – put some glue on the back of the batting and place it on the markings of your outer hexagon, Press down lightly.Image

We will continue in the second part.  From here on in – things go quick as all the preparation has been done.  If you have any questions, please ask..

Blessings
